Welcome back… Celeb hairstyles of Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, Meghan Linsey, Mad Men & much, much more

In honor of the New Year, we are doing a Grand Re-Opening of realhairstyles.net. For a variety of reasons (health of significant others, our real jobs and other circumstances beyond our control), we have been gone for far too long. So for 2012 we are resolving to do one blog posting a week or at the very least once every two weeks. While we were gone, you were faithful to us. Our first action is reassessing our viewer stats of all time. These stats have stayed consistent for the past year and a half, and they give us a good idea of your fave (and not so fave) celebrity hairstyles.

The top most-viewed are:
1. Home page
2. Country Music Hairstyles: Taylor Swift, Julianne Hough, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood
3. Emma Stone’s hair color: What was she thinking? Blond and Fall for Emma Stone’s haircolor Rich Red
4. Taylor Swift’s hairstyles “Speak Now!”
5. Meghan Linsey’s hairstyle, boyfriend and their “Steel Magnolia”
6. Miley Cyrus‘ style going straight from PG to R
7. Carey Mulligan’s hair: an Education in style (we wouldn’t have guessed this because her weekly and monthly stats weren’t that high!)
8. Mad Women hairstyles: January Jones, Christina Hendricks & Elizabeth Moss
9. Ombre celebrity haircolor: Sarah Jessica Parker, Drew Barrymore, Alexa Chung, Gisele Bundchen…
10. Demi Lovato’s hair sparks public debate

11. Marilyn Monroe hairstyles: Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Lady Gaga (and Marilyn, of course!)
12. More on ombre haircolor: Camilla Alves and Jessica Biel
13. Victoria Beckham’s hairstyles are ever-changing
14. The women of Mad Men (again)
15. Timeless star style: Audrey Hepburn and Leslie Caron
16. Update on Janet Jacson’s new hairstyle
17. The James Bond Girls of Iron Man
18. Celebrity Apprentice hairstyles (from 2 years ago!)
19. The wizardly world of Emma Watson‘s Hairstyle
20. Julianne Hough stands out!

Other most-viewed posts include topics such as Jennifer Anist0n’s lob, Agyness Deyn‘s buzz cut, more Meghan Linsey, Evangeline Lilly’s hairstyles: Lost and Found, new style Fish-Tail Braids (Leona Lewis, Jennifer Aniston & Evangeline), Brond haircolor and much, much more.

On the other hand, the lowest of the low were looked at only 2 to 29 times. Among your non-interesting subjects are Miley Cyrus (note that one of her posts is in the top 10!), Green hairstyles, Kate Gosselin, Rihanna, Betty White, Jessica Simpson, Katherine Heigl, Taylor Swift/Jake Gyllenhaal, latest Robin Hood movie, bangs for babies, Sarah Michelle Gellar before and after Buffy, Ke$sha, Hayden Panettierie (personally a mane makover we loved) and sideswept hairstyles of Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Katee Sackhoff… whew…we’re out of breath and can’t bear to continue with the negatives.

We’re also nearing the end of our Jan. 2, 2012 posting. After all we can’t sum up 6 months in 1 day! So we’ll sum it up with blogs we hope to post in the next month: The Best Hairstyles of 2011; Hairstyles of Ashlee Simpson, Emma Watson, Emma Watson, Julianne Hough, Jennifer Aniston, etc.; Kate Hudson’s worst hairstyle ever!; Rooney Mara and the hottest rising hairstyles today; etc., etc.

Victoria Beckham’s hairstyles are ever-changing

Makeover Queen Victoria
It’s nice to know we can always count on Victoria Beckham for new hairstyle ideas. The Posh wife of David Beckham debuted yet another new do at the LG Fashion Event, which she co-hosted with Eva Longoria Parker. VB has celeb stylist Ken Paves to thank for her trendy tresses that night. Jessica Simpson’s hair designer and BFF, Ken told InStyle that he “decided the hair needed to be clean, simple with some slight texture… to seem effortless, just like the clothes!”

The cut works on short to medium-length hair that has a bit of natural movement and will hold a “set.” With long layers on top graduating into the shorter base, you get the extra body and structure that simplifies at-home styling. After a shampoo, towel dry hair to get as much moisture out as you can. Apply a product that gives you maximum volume and hold. Bend forward or blow-dry hair from underneath. If needed, put a diffuser on the drier. Scrunch continuously while drying naturally or using the blow-dry method. One of the mane things is making sure hair is thoroughly dry before you roll it with a curling iron (one-inch diameter). Make curly locks in random places, taking small sections forward, others back. Use your fingers to gently place the curls and mess them up in some spots (if you want!). For the final touch, Ken recommends his own Shining Soul Volume-Friendly Glosser.

Once you get this down, be prepared to try the next big thing from Queen Victoria!

Are asymmetrical celebrity hairstyles popular now?

The look is all the rage, the cut not so much!

When trend watchers made their predictions for Spring/Summer 2010, they said asymmetrical dos were going to be hot. Our first thought was “No way.” Second thought, “Maybe.” Only a few bold celebs will commit to it as an everyday look. Everyone else will wear it temporarily for special occasions (awards shows, premieres, etc.)

Asymmetrical cut.Purposely designed to be off-balance. It’s great for trendsetters like Rihanna and Victoria Beckham who are always stylin’ outside of the box (and rarely wear a cut that’s perfectly symmetrical). Then there’s the brave new world of style leaders like Katherine McPhee, Agyness Deyn and Hayden Panettiere who don’t conform to the mold. Here, Katherine shows how an asymmetrical short cut is way more striking than her plain ole long locks.

Asymmetrical style. Hair that’s been “done” to look one-sided. This is probably what the forecasters meant by asymmetrical cuz one celeb after another is wearing the style–not the cut!  Sidesweeps have swept the red carpet for quite a while now. At the Oscars alone there were many examples–Sandra Bullock, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet to name a few. At the world premiere of Death at a Funeral Zoe Saldana chose the star hairstyle. We’re really liking Sandy’s curled, messy side–more than the bone straight style she wore for the Academy Awards.

Soap fans may have noticed the look on daytime TV… in the shape of a lop-sided bob, ponytail or bun. Molly Brunette chooses a curly pony for real life and she’s wearing it more often than not  on Days.

Probably the worst example of an asymmetrical cut is Kate Gosselin before stardom. For her, giving up a weird short cut was harder than being a mom of 8. (Now’s there no stopping her do-overs.) Hopefully we won’t have to see her all the time now that she’s not a Dancing Queen!

That’s all for now, folks… but we’d love to hear what you think about asymmetrical styles and who’s wearing them!
