Celebrity Blondes: Avengers’ Scarlett Johansson, Mad Men’s January Jones, Glee-ful Dianna Agron & more

Featuring straight, curly, wavy, up, down, short to long

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is considered THE style event of the year…yes, bigger than the Academy Awards show, Golden Globes, Emmys. It’s been nicknamed the Oscars of the East Coast or the Fashion Oscars. With the spotlight on glamour, the Met presents more than enough hairstyle ideas for Real Women. Of course, many of the ‘dos are unrealistic…unless you have the time and money to spare and/or you have a celeb hairstylist at your beck and call.

Since so many great hairstyles showed up at this year’s Ball, we decided to feature a few at a time. Here, the spotlight is on some of the beautiful blondes at the High Society event.

Scarlett Johannson’s Wavy Bob
When we saw Scarlett on the Red Carpet, it hit us that loose waves without layers have become a timeless style like a straight bob, pixie or upsweep. While the wavy style looks easy to do, it’s really not…unless your hair is naturally this way. Tighter curls would have to be smoothed out and straighter hair would need lots o’ help from a waving iron or a very loose perm.

Amber Valetta’s Sleek Waves
Glamorous hairstyles are no big deal for models like Ms. Valetta. But for women like us, nothing could be more special (or harder to achieve)! Anyone who’s not rich and famous would have to spend an hour or more at home or up to half a day in a salon to recreate the hair fashion. Most types of hair would have to be blown dry using small sections at a time. Then working again with small sections, curl hair vertically with a medium-to-large barrel styling iron. Let hair dry thoroughly before brushing gently and finishing with your fave holding product.

Chloe Sevigny’s Chic Short Cut
Meanwhile Ms. Sevigny could almost comb her hair and go to get ready for Big Love Nights. But you know THAT wouldn’t cut it for divas who are going to be in the limelight. (It’s funny to see a star like Chloe making what looks like a mistake with her hair…it’s messed up on the left side or is it just sticking out too much?!) The layered, short cut looks more polished when it’s blown-dry after applying a texturizing product to damp hair. Curl a few tendrils around the face and fingerbrush.

After looking closely at her to write this post, we realized that Chloe is either nude or wearing nude-colored undergarments. While it might be obvious to you, we think it’s a kind of subtle way to draw attention to yourself. The bloggers at gofugyourself.com would call the bare beauty anything but subtle! Writing about Chloe in their Fug or Fab category, they say, “Yes, she’s bedecked chiefly in hot pants and mirrors. If only she’d opted to look in one of them.” (If you’re into snarky comments about Celebrity Style, visit the Fug Girls.)

Dianna Agron’s Curly Upsweep
Natural curls don’t require much prompting to get tressed up like this. Simply scrunch while drying with a diffused blow-drier or squeeze and lift curls continuously while they are drying naturally. Brush out the crown before sweeping hair back. Loosen lots of curls on one side and a few on the other. Secure with bobby pins underneath in back and spray.

January Jones’ Sleek Bob
We love to follow Miss January to marvel at the ways she combines pretty hairstyles with hot trends. And it’s fun to see her sometimes questionable fashion choices (like a glaring yellow gown with details on the bodice that emphasis the corset detailing and resemble a cartoon vampire.) As for her hair, is there a little pink left from when she added the streak months ago? Actually the Mad (wo)Men’s hairstyle needs little embellishment. The straight blunt cut is classic and looks its best with meticulous blow-dry styling.

Scarlett Johansson’s wavy hair on The Hollywood Walk of Fame

Celebrity Hairstyle matches trend-setting star
Of-the-moment glamour waves reflect Scarlett’s bold sense of style as she receives her Star on the famous sideWalk in California. Few celebs have what it takes to wear all of their hair smoothed back except for a wavy crown with a slight pompadour. Getty Image.

Academy Award-winning hairstyles: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence & Michelle Williams

Natalie Portman not only won the Oscar for best actress, she won top honors in our prettiest hairstyles of the night. She swept her mane to one side and let the loose curls spill over the shoulder. Another award-winning look was Scarlett Johansson’s new mid-length bob full of tousled waves and curls. Any other day, Scarlett would probably leave her hair straight to show off the blunt cut.

Amy Adams chose to go glam like Natalie, but her wavy curls were released all over, caressing the cheek on one side and going back on the other. Jennifer Lawrence looked nothing like her character from Winter’s Bone. Her hair and makeup draw the line between the real-life actress and the fictional mountain girl. Her hair is similar to Amy’s yet different. While the redhead has defined waves, the blonde’s are unstructured except for the curled ends.

Michelle Williams landed in our best-tressed competition, as she continues to revel in a daring pixie. Ever-changing haircolor keeps the short cut fresh. Recently, Michelle has gone blonder and blonder ending up in a platinum hue reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

This is just a short list of our Academy Award-winning hair fashions. For more, stay tuned!

Ryan Reynold’s girl “friends”: Sandra Bullock, Scarlett Johansson & their celebrity hairstyles!

For a minute around New Year’s Eve, it looked like Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock were a couple. A few days later the truth came out —they’re just very good friends. While the rumors swirled, guys were wishing they were in Ryan’s place: going from Scarlett Johansson’s ex-hubby to Sandra Bullock’s sweetheart. Scarlett and Ryan split less than a month before he was photographed with Sandra on New Year’s Eve/Day. The Ryan-Sandra rumors were based on the theory that Ryan had consoled Sandra after she threw out Jesse James and that she was returning the favor for her friend and Proposal co-star.

Though the love story wasn’t true, there’s no doubt that Ryan has great taste. His two leading ladies are gorgeous, not to mention talented and smart. The mane difference is haircolor. When we think of Sandra, long straight hair comes to mind, but that doesn’t mean she always go smooth. Ms. B has been known to wear loose ringlets, tighter curls and loads of updos (like the sidesweep above) . The same goes for Scarlett, who changes her hair more often than not. Here, we see Ms. Jo in “windblown” curls (top) and in less stylized, scrunchy waves (below). Scarlett’s casual coif was perfect for the night of the “kiss”… at the MTV Movie Awards when Sandra instigated the intimate moment on stage, before the cameras!

Star hairstyles from Iron Man 2: Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson & Leslie Bibb

Iron Man 2 had the fifth-highest opening weekend of all time!
(The others are Dark Knight, Spider-Man 3, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

Enough about that…let’s talk about the women behind Iron Man.

Naturally we’re starting with Gwyneth Paltrow. Her character Pepper doesn’t get to do much…Gwyneth says she would like to get more lines in Ironman 3. Despite the small role, fans are glad to see the actress play a charming girl-next-door type as opposed to a chilly beauty that she’s acted out before. Pepper’s hairstyle is do-able for real girls and women. The long bob is better known as a lob–a trend Ms. Paltrow helped start a couple of years ago. The look is very versatile, but Pepper tends to wear it down, up or in a ponytail. The ever-perky Pepper wears bangs and has her hair colored strawberry blond (or light red depending on the lighting).

Scarlett Johansson goes in the opposite direction to tress up for her role, Natalie Rushman/Black Widow. The actress says the Black Widow is a “no-bullsh_t character.” Thick, dark red ringlets fit that image–controlled on top and wild below. A few layers and scrunch styling make the curls swing with her every move.

Like Gwyneth, Leslie Bibbs has picked up where the first Iron Man left off with her Christine Everhart the reporter who has mixed feelings about Iron Man. Here, Leslie’s poses in a just-got-out-of-bed look, which reminds us of Christine’s night with Tony Stark before he came out as Iron Man. We really like Leslie’s uncomplicated style. It’s easy to do if you have long side bangs and light layers. Blow dry hair with a large brush, rolling ends under or up for a tousled look.

Coming soon: more women behind Iron Man… like Kate Mara, Helena Mattson, Renee Herlocker, Grace Stanley, Olivia Munn, Anya Monzikoba and even more!
