Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift are big winners of the Academy of Country Music Awards 2011. Miranda took home four awards—the most of the night—and Taylor got what she’d been coveting for years, Entertainer of the Year. As expected, the singers got all tressed up for the occasion. At first glance they looked very much alike when holding their prizes. But then you notice the differences: long and longer, blond and blonder, curled and curlier, bangs on and off the face. Mira’s do is easier to recreate: simply blow dry with a big round brush. For more curl do a quick roller set or use a curling iron with a big barrel. Tay’s glamour waves can take up to an hour to do at home. You almost have to use a three-barrel waving iron and work small sections at a time. For special occasions, you might want to get the look at a salon for time-savings and professional quality.
Earlier in the evening, Miranda wore another do to walk the Red Carpet. She pulled her hair back and left long side bangs down to sweep to one side. Another view of the top Entertainer shows how the waves are just as pretty from the side. This is a good reminder for us to think about how our hair looks all the way around—from side to side including the back. In this lighting the haircolor variations of platinum and gold are more noticeable. Who knew long blond curls could look so different, yet be so alike?
In the end, these blondes had more fun showing off their trophies than worrying about their hair. What good is a pretty hairstyle without a happy face? Our moms used to say we were prettier when we smiled. Maybe they’re onto something!

Carey Mulligan barely resembles the young schoolgirl she played in An Education. Her transformation started right the Oscars 2010. That night Carey stood out for two reasons: her leading actress nomination and her barely-there blond haircut (below right). As you can see, the sudden star wasn’t content to stay with the pixie even though it was adorable! She has grown her hair out a tad, but it looks quite different. With that little bit of extra length, Ms. Mulligan can wear her hair windswept, braided to one side, conservative, sexy, sophisticated… you get the idea!
It’s hard to believe that Carey in a mop top (right) is the same person as Carey the Academy Award nominee. Oscar night the cameras were drawn to Carey, and that drew in the fans. All of the attention hasn’t gone to her head. She seems like a real-life 20-something who likes to experiment with her look. At the same time, she brings to mind celebs who thrive on change (sort of like Madonna and Lady Gaga but more like Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, etc).
Even when her hair was short and dark red, Carey found ways to mix it up. One night, she used a dab of product and brushed her hair to one side. Another evening, she applied something stronger, separated the bangs and put on a headband. Anyone who doesn’t know better would think that you can’t get any versatility from a short cut. But you know better and Carey proves it!

Michelle Williams has what it takes to be an “It” girl, as she’s shown in her numerous makeovers since Dawson’s Creek. Back then long, goldie locks were perfect for her semi-reformed bad girl opposite Katie Holmes‘ good girl. After serious roles like Brokeback Mountain and Shutter Island, the Oscar-nominated star became a new woman for the Cannes Film Festival in May. She went pretty short and platinum blond with long bangs swerving to one side… just in time to promote her new movie Blue Valentine. The daring ‘do and challenging acting jobs have helped establish Michelle as an indie star. An even shorter pixie cut in strawberry blond showed off her bravado (along with her stunning facial features!). Filming a new movie in Toronto calls for a fresh look, and Ms. Williams answers the call with a longer, darker strawberry bob… oddly enough she seems younger than ever! All of these transformations makes us wonder what’s next for this fearless trendsetter.
