Jennifer Lawrence’s Hair: so much to say, so little time!

We first met Jennifer Lawrence, right after we saw Winter’s Bone and right before getting an Academy Awards nomination for that movie. We got our introduction from some late-night TV show (Letterman? The Daily Show?). Our first impression was that the real Miss Lawrence was nothing like her character. She looked more like a blond bimbo than the seriously talented actress we saw on screen. She squirmed and fidgeted in a super short, tight dress that showed a lot of cleavage. The actress could barely talk smart about her career because she was giggling so much (but that was probably from a bad case of the nerves.)

We liked Winter’s Bone because it was set in the Ozarks and because it was a small independent film. Now with the big release of The Hunger Games, Jennifer is close to becoming a household name (at least in homes where teens, tweens live).

In between those two movies, Jennifer has become well-known for her hair and instant glamour. Even though her Katniss in Hunger is naturally messy, it’s dark. Jen’s reluctance to dye her beautiful blond hair brunette for the Games resulted in an expensive and time-consuming experiment with lots of fabulous fakes. The movie’s head hairstylist, Linda Flowers told Bellasugar.com that she rented $30,000 dollars worth of hair–five $6,000 lace wigs–in all shades of brown, from light to slightly reddish. After playing with the different colors, Jennifer picked one and allowed the hair dept. to color her hair ONE time only! Not wanting to mess with multiple haircolorings seems extra cautious when compared with long-time actresses who think nothing of going long, short, shaved, dark, light, bleached or blue with their hair!

Once filming of The Hunger Games had wrapped, Jen wasted no time lightening up her hair and she shows no signs of letting up on the gradual fading until she gets closer to her natural roots.

As we said at the top of this post, there’s a lot to say about Jennifer’s mane. In the short time between filming and release of Hunger, she has shown up in more hairstyles than most of us wear in 5 to 10 years’ time. With that said, we can promise you more styles to come in the near future!

Jennifer Lawrence: we knew her when…

We just read an article about how Jennifer Lawrence had to pretty herself up to be taken as an actress who could play feminine roles (or sexy according to Hollywood’s standards). Even though we learned how pretty she is after right after Winter’s Bone, most style critics and fans didn’t discover that until now. She’s poised to become a household name because of her stand-out role of Katniss in Hunger Games. Before she jets into stardom, Jennifer appears down-to-earth, “almost goofy,” according to one interview. Since being captivated by her in Winter’s Bone, you can be sure we’ll be following her every move (in style as well as career). When it comes to acting and her hair she is a chameleon, and she’s sure to do that in Style, too!

Growing into celebrity style: Hailee Steinfeld’s hair

Is this girl a woman now or just on the brink?

If you’ve only seen Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit, you would think she’s an ordinary girl from the Wild West. At the Oscars she looked more like an Academy Award nominee, more like the up-and-coming star she is. The recognition came as a result of Hailee holding her own with heavy hitters Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. On the biggest night in Hollywood Hailee took out her braids and rolled her hair into a glamourous upsweep. A delicate headband complemented Hailee’s mane change.

If you didn’t know we were talking about Miss Steinfeld, would you recognize her in this black and white glamour shot? With a silky straight mane and cloud of feathers, Hailee seems like the obvious choice for new face of miu miu, Prada’s younger line. Not too long ago, Hailee wasn’t well known, and now she has joined the likes of other miu miu faces such as Katie Holmes, Kirsten Dunst and Lindsay Lohan.

Hailee’s look goes full circle when she kicks back. Her waist-length hair whispers “pretty” when deep waves get stronger near the ends. In pre-production of Forgotten, Sleeping Beauty and Romeo and Juliet, the actress is facing a hard follow-up to her Oscar-nominated performance in True Grit. She reminds us of another ingenue in  Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence who like Hailee transformed herself for her critically acclaimed performance in Winter’s Bone. Miss Hailee has already taken a major step in Hollywood with her Breakthrough of the Year honor that she received from Mr. Bridges at the Young Hollywood Awards.

We’re predicting this newcomer has a brighter than bright future–not only in acting but also in hairstyles and fashion.

Academy Award-winning hairstyles: Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence & Michelle Williams

Natalie Portman not only won the Oscar for best actress, she won top honors in our prettiest hairstyles of the night. She swept her mane to one side and let the loose curls spill over the shoulder. Another award-winning look was Scarlett Johansson’s new mid-length bob full of tousled waves and curls. Any other day, Scarlett would probably leave her hair straight to show off the blunt cut.

Amy Adams chose to go glam like Natalie, but her wavy curls were released all over, caressing the cheek on one side and going back on the other. Jennifer Lawrence looked nothing like her character from Winter’s Bone. Her hair and makeup draw the line between the real-life actress and the fictional mountain girl. Her hair is similar to Amy’s yet different. While the redhead has defined waves, the blonde’s are unstructured except for the curled ends.

Michelle Williams landed in our best-tressed competition, as she continues to revel in a daring pixie. Ever-changing haircolor keeps the short cut fresh. Recently, Michelle has gone blonder and blonder ending up in a platinum hue reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe.

This is just a short list of our Academy Award-winning hair fashions. For more, stay tuned!
