OMG! Miley Cyrus’ hair is super short and platinum blond. Do you like it?

Just when we thought Miley Cyrus had done it all, she made her boldest style move to date!

On Sunday Miley did something that was heard around the world: she had her hair cut into a pixie with a buzz on the side. While the drastic makeover seems spur-of-the-moment, it’s not. On August 6 Miley tweeted photos of herself in shoulder-length, white blond locks. Hairstylist Chris McMillan did the honors on both of the new dos. McMillan is famous for creating “The Rachel” for Jennifer Aniston, and Miley asked him for something similar. She got a pretty Rachel-like lob (long bob), but that was only a preview of what was to come. Just a week later, Chris completed the Miley makeover that conjures up images of Victoria “Posh” Beckham.

Even before the latest do-overs, Miley was taking mini steps toward the big change. On July 14 she sent followers the photo above right to announce that she had gone blond. If you’re wondering why she’s puckering up, Miley explains, “Now that I’m blonde I gotta give duck lips in every photo.” The photo on left was taken in between then and the top two dos. While there’s been a wild mix of reactions to the final cut, there seems to be consensus that it was time for that high bun to go!

While we were finishing this post, rumors had already started circulating that Miley is hiding her new hair or maybe regretting it. Personally we think she was trying to avoid the paparazzi while walking with her fiance. It will be interesting to see how long Miley will keep the do before grabbing onto some extensions. And since she and Liam are planning a long engagement, anything can happen before the wedding.

Pretty Straight Celebrity Hairstyles: Emma Watson, Christina Ricci, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Amurri & Julia Jones

Easy ways to tress up straight hair!

Straight hair is always better with a little bit of TLC as the stars give their manes when they come out at night…like they did at the MTV Movie Awards.

Fans of Emma Watson from her Harry Potter days are glad to see she’s growing out the very short-short cut that she got after her long run as Hermione in Harry’s Wizardly World. The post-Hermione look was called a pixie but it came close to being a buzzed hairstyle. We thought Em looking like Aubrey Hepburn was darling, but her Hermione admirers were shocked (and disappointed). Moving out of the precise short has given Emma more versatility and the chance to tousle her tresses because every hair doesn’t have to be in place. Golden highlights are heavier around the face drawing attention to the model/actress’s glowing personality. The style can be worn as is, but it looks best when blow-dried with a round brush after applying a volumizing product on damp hair.

Eva Amurri Martino is in Adam Sandler‘s That’s My Boy (just released today). We know her better as Hank’s student/stripper from Californication. and as Susan Sarandon’s daughter. Eva’s take on straight hair is interesting with a touch of wave and curl thrown in for contrast. Long layers and ombré highlights provide body and hold after styling with a blow dryer and a curling iron (used sporadically on the ends).

Christina Ricci, who was in TV’s very short-lived Pan Am, chooses the easiest route for straight hair–short. The movie/TV star has the guts and good looks to wear a ‘do that shows off her face (and high forehead). Styling is straight-forward: simply apply gel and comb into place. Experiment with blow-drying or a flat-iron to achieve a smoother finish.

Twilight’s Julia Jones wears a bob, the tried-and-true style for straight hair. Instead of being ruler-straight, the ends are notched (or texturized as a hairstylist would say). Like Christina, Julia can carry off a dramatic ‘do that’s made that way with a center part.

How-to secrets for Julia’s hair work well for adding volume to any straight hairstyle. When hairstylist Cervando Maldonado worked with Ms. Jones, his first goal was to calm frizz. According to usmagazine.com, he applied Rose Veil Oil evenly through damp hair. After blow-drying the bob with a round brush, he made pin curls and left them in for 10 minutes. He added a bit of wave using a curling iron, but you could just gently brush out hair after the set.

Jennifer Aniston wears one of her trademark styles–long, straight and angled in front. Jen is famous for starting the “Rachel” trend from Friends (mid-length, heavily layered, very highlighted and highly stylized). She’s stated time and time again how much happier she is with her casual coif that’s become a modern classic. You can imagine how the look can be recreated: simply blow-dry hair over a large round brush. If you want (or need) more polish, use a flat-iron or jumbo-sized curling iron.

Jennifer Aniston Hair: pretty smart like her fave drink–smartwater

Our BFF keeps her hair as simple as her fave drink—smartwater!

smartwater says, “Simplicity is delicious.”
We say, “Simplicity is sexy.”

This is the second year Jennifer Aniston has been the star of ads for Glacéau smartwater. Launched in June magazines, the campaign features beautiful black-and-white photos, befitting a classic trendsetter of our times. Her beginnings as a style icon began with The Rachel haircut on Friends and continues to this day with movies such as Just Go With It, Horrible Bosses and recently Wanderlust. While her Rachel look is the most memorable, Jen has been a leader in other trends like the Bronde movement that’s still going strong today. This newer trend refers to blond on brown hair color. Her haircut, too, is well-known for being straight, angled around the face and lightly layered for built-in volume.

smartwater says, “good taste travels well.”
We say, “good style travels beautifully.”

Having followed Jen from the beginning, we know that she has always cared about keeping her hair healthy. Using good sense and help from her longtime hairstylist and friend Chris McMillan, Jen counteracts the dryness/damage that comes with chemical treatments and frequent blow-drying/heat styling. The stylist to the stars who created The Rachel is the owner of Chris McMillan The Salon in Beverly Hills and co-owner of McMillan Canale Salon in Malibu.

We say, “live a life with hair well hydrated!”

In a past interview with Allure magazine, Chris revealed some of their healthy hair care tips: “We pretty much have a formula. I use a Kérastase mousse at the crown and the ends and a little bit of Kérastase Sérum Oléo-Relax only on the ends–because we love the smell and how it moisturizes her hair.” Kératase Ciment Thermique also helps keep her hair in good shape and ultra-shiny.

Hairstyle aficionados may remember in 2011 when Ms. Aniston had her long hair cut off into a mid-length bob during the promo tour for the movie Just Go With It. In the January 2012 issue of InStyle mag JenA confided, “The real reason I cut my hair? My real hair was getting thinned out again from all the extensions. It was starting to look fake.” Earlier, around the time of the haircut, McMillan told allure.com, “It’s nice to take the extensions out of the hair and do something more natural.”

Jen gets the same kind of attention from her colorist Michael Canale, co-owner of the McMillan Canale salon. He usually keeps the highlights within a couple of shades of the star’s natural hair, so that she continues to look like a real-life California Blonde.

Brooklyn Decker’s makeover: swimsuit model trying to change image!

Just Go With It, get a haircut!
Right before the premiere of this Adam Sandler movie, Jennifer Aniston shocked her fans by cutting her long hair into a lob (a long bob). Right after the premiere, castmate Brooklyn Decker did like Jen, but chopped 10 inches off her mane! While Jen’s look hasn’t changed much, Brook looks like a different woman in her longish-bob. This was a smart move for the blonde who’s trying to go from supermodel to actress. The makeover fits her career goals because the new do is conservative and easily styled to suit a businesswoman.

It’s going to take more than a haircut to go from model to actress
Though she might not have gotten as much publicity as Jen, Brooklyn got plenty of attention from gossip tabloids and celeb mags. Ms. Decker loves the new do for the same reasons she hates the trailer of her first film, Just Go With It. The preview aired over and over during the Super Bowl, drawing more interest to the babe in a bikini than the halftime show’s received in years! Later she told Conan O’Brien she was disappointed in Sony who didn’t live up to their promise to showcase her acting potential rather than her past as a cover girl on Sports Illustrated’s infamous Swimsuit Issue.

Brooklyn Decker’s Drastic Haicut: Likes or Yikes?
This was the question posed by ivillage.com. after Brooklyn posted the do-over on Twitter. Female fans have cried out, “Why’d she do it?” and guys wondered the same thing! Experience tells us that girls and women who like to follow styles of the stars prefer very long hair, usually full curls, windblown waves, but also straight and sleek … basically anything long and sexy!

Ask any guy what he thinks about the new do. If he even cares to talk about hair, he’ll probably say something like, “She’d look good in anything”! We take this to mean she can wear any hairstyle–one of those stars we hate because they’re beautiful…no matter how they wear their hair (think Demi Moore, Agyness Deyn, Janet Jackson, Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Hayden Panettiere). Those who don’t like the shorter style have to admit that it’s easier to maintain. It’s long enough not to need a trim every four to six weeks. And it looks great naturally (if cut by a talented stylist).

These shorter hair pix are easier to do than you might think, but the sleek style takes more time and effort: blowdry with a large round brush, working with small sections at a time. The second view of the new tresses is pretty natural. Simply blow dry bangs forward and everything else back. Roll ends under, over or both, and you’re ready to rumble! And don’t worry about being pretty, shorter hair flatters almost anyone!Sources: FlynetPictures.com, Getty Images, ivillage.com, Brooklyn Decker, dailymail.co.uk

Demi Lovato’s hair sparks public debate

Find out how Demi loves to change her hair!

You can tell a star’s popular when she inspires fans to participate in online polls. Based on current surveys, Demi Lovato has hit the big time! The questions range from the trivial to the major stuff  (hair). With the most recent changes, Miss Lovato is barely recognizable as Disney’s girl-next-door. The mane difference is her haircolor which has gone from dark to light. She’s one of the leading brondes (brunette/blonde) along with Jennifer Aniston, Gisele Bundchen, Natalie Portman, Jennifer Lopez, etc., etc.

Demi’s do-over is drawing lots of attention… hence the polls. The top question is: “Do you or don’t you like the new color? (Maybe you don’t care or think it’s her own business). As often happens, there’s a group of admirers who are begging the Camp Rocker to “please, please, please go back to the way it was!”

When a poll proves popular, there’s spin-offs. In this case the pollsters are asking, “Do you like Demi’s hair up or down?” We haven’t seen a survey about her in curly or straight hair, but there’s probably one out there or in the works.

If you’re like us, polls are pointless. We LIKE to see stars changing their hair. It’s only natural that a teen/adult would want to give up “girlish” for “sophisticated.” So we’re all for the rising star trading in her long black curls for a brighter, lightly layered cut.

The easiest way to copy the singer/actress’ look? Wear curly hair natural or scrunched while air-dying. It’s simple to turn casual curls into polished ringlets: simple set hair vertically with a curling iron. Alternate the direction of the curls, rolling one piece forward, the next back and so on. When time is of the essence, take it up! Brush out curls around the face and sweep hair to crown, back or into a French roll.

We’ve saved the hardest coif for last: curly locks styled straight. Demi has professionals to do what needs to be done: blow-drying hair small sections at a time over a large round or flat brush. But with a little practice you can become an expert.

If you still want to tell us what you think, feel free!

Star hairstyles take a new twist: Leona Lewis, Jennifer Aniston, Evangeline Lilly

The fishtail braid, knotted pony or side twist… one of the hottest looks today.  What’s the appeal? It’s fun, easy and oh-so-pretty! For a glam night out, Leona Lewis takes a stylized approach. Her hair designer Ben Cooke says the “fishtail braid” stands out from all the other sidesweeps that are so popular now. The easiest way to do them: take hair to one side, keeping hair loose on top, and then twist the tail. If you want to get fancy, brush hair to one side and divide it into three uneven sections (small, medium, large). Make a loose braid, secure it and gently finger to mess it up a little (if you want). Jennifer Aniston wears a casual fishtail for a scene in Just Go With It being shot in Hawaii. When Evangeline Lilly’s Kate went back to the Island on Lost, she chose a casual dress version. The crown of hair is smoothed back instead of loose and the length is twisted tighter than the others. Wear a twisted side pony now to be trendy or save it for another season (or for when your hair’s longer!). Speaking of length, shorter layers can be secured with small bobby pins tucked underneath. Actually bobby pins stuck straight into the twist add security to any twist. If your hair is simply too short to wear this way, fake it with a hairpiece. The style takes little time and effort, so you have nothing to lose and lots to gain by trying it!
