Mad Men Hairstyles still great, show’s not so hot!

Mad Men

We were let down with the long-awaited return of Mad Men. The season premiere left us in cold after two hours of TV that was almost 50% full of ads. We expected there to be limited interruptions made possible by one or two sponsors.

Our disappointment doesn’t relate to the hairstyles, much less the acting. Christina Hendricks is stunning as usual in her sleek updo. Even when she’s wiped out from being a new mom (and having her mom around!), she’s pretty. Actually it’s fun to see that “Joan” is like us real women–naturally messy inher just-got-out of bed look and eyeglasses.

With her hair down, Christina shows off gorgeous loose waves that seem au naturel. When swept up, the hair is full yet sleek, long side bangs and lifted crown. Updating the retro ‘do is simple: just tone down the volume and mess it up a bit!

As for “Peggy,” not much has changed. Elisabeth Moss is still playing down her true beauty to match her super serious copywriter extraordinnaire. Like Joanie’s updo, Peggy’s flip can be less exaggerated. Her “done” hairstyle popped up at Don’s surprise b’day party. It, too, can be modernized by turning down the volume and breaking up the curls.

As for “Betty,” we wouldn’t know what’s to come if we hadn’t seen promo photos of January Jones donning ‘dos like these. The trademark flip isn’t shown here, but it’s bound to show up once she comes back in the storyline.
