‘Bachelorette’ Finale: sneak peek at Emily Maynard’s style

Beautiful hair, beautiful setting, not-so-beautiful dress…that’s what we predict for the last night of Bachelorette!

Beautiful hair
Em made a great hairstyle choice for the Final Rose Show. The smooth crown breaks into waves and then loose spiral curls. We really like the look because it’s realistic and pretty easy to do at home. One option is using waving and curling irons after blow-drying.

A side view of her hair shows that her waves are not overdone. Their “messy” texture fits today’s trends. If your hair has natural body, you could apply a strong-hold product and scrunch while blow-drying with a diffuser.

Beautiful setting, not-so-beautiful dress
You’re used to seeing gorgeous scenery during the season, but the finale in Curacao will appear more exotic. Here, luscious flowers detract attention from Em, and that’s a good thing! From the front, the gown’s fitted top and full skirt are unbalanced and make her look bottom heavy–hiding the truth that she’s ultra petite.

Do you agree with any of our last-minute thoughts?

Jennifer Lopez’s Hair: from short to long in one day!

Early in the day J Lo had short hair. During the show, it was long again. Did she get her hair cut or was she taking a mini break from extensions? Only her hairdresser knows for sure!

On June 20th, Jen was in Santiago, Chile as part of her World Tour 2012. When she and beau Casper Smart were taking in the sights, J Lo was nearly unrecognizable in short hair and shades. It seemed like her long locks had been cut up to the shoulders…but later that night she was right back to her long trademark tresses for her Dance Again show.

The quick change had everyone wondering whether Ms. Lopez had her hair cut, was wearing a wig or took out extensions and had them re-applied. As of yet, no one has the answer, and it will probably remain a mystery because Ms. Lopez wants it that way!

We were glad to see former American Idol judge changing up her look, and it would have been nice if she stuck with it a longer than a day or two. We liked the cut, but not the style–unbalanced with curls puffing out too far on one side. The mane drawback is that it’s outdated. As dailymail.com puts it, “the new ‘do [has] the air of a natty ’80s power coiffure.”

‘Bachelorette’ finale: can you believe Emily Maynard stressed about her looks all season?

According to Us Weekly, the wanna-be fiancée has worried about her looks from the start. She became even more distressed as the season progressed.

Unbelievable!  When has Emily ever looked anything but gorgeous on air? Is she seeing things when she looks in a mirror? While her insecurities don’t make sense to us, we CAN believe the rumors of breast implants, veneers, a nose job, diva-like behavior, conniving for her own show and her desire to be famous.

“She literally cried” when she was unhappy with her on-air ‘dos, makeup and fashions, an insider told Us. The tears extended to anything else she didn’t like about the show.

Here’s some reasons for our skepticism:
• The Bachelorette has a team of talented hairstylists, makeup artists and fashion experts at her beck and call.
• Emily’s good with her hair and has great taste.
• The media have repeatedly written and talked about how pretty she is. Some writers call her a “sweetie.”

We don’t really know what to think about her hyper-critisms. Is it all a plot to draw attention to herself? Does she compare herself with beauties like Charlize Theron, Emma Stone, etc., etc.?

No matter what her delusions are we have to say: “Get a grip!” Of course, it doesn’t matter what we think. This installment of the Emily show is almost over, and she’s ready for her spin-off.

Stay tuned for details about the Bachelorette’s hairstyles.

Sherri Shepherd’s hair: super short and blond! Do you like it?

When we first saw Sherri Shepherd wearing a new ‘do on The View, we didn’t recognize her…and neither did host Barbara Walters! Sherri must have been expecting the same reaction from other Viewers, because she carried a big name tag onto the set. We love the look and thought she had really cut and colored her hair…but then we found out it’s a wig.

Click above to see Sherri on The View!

The always bubbly Sherri is more giddy than normal because she’s working with Lux Hair on her own line of wigs. She’s so excited about the venture that her Twitter and Facebook accounts are full of the news! In one tweet, Sherri wrote, “Hubby @SalfromtheD says I have to get off computer & go to bed (I kinda’ agree) but I’m in a wig high! #LuxHair #fb

On another day, Sherri described the photo above like this: “With the beautiful @DaisyFuentes at the #LuxHair launch for our hair & wig line #YEAH #fb

Sherri admits she has heard criticisms about the light, cropped wig; some fans think it’s fake-looking and not flattering. Of course, Sherri doesn’t care and we love that attitude!

In a post at tvshowsonlinetv.com, we found a positive reaction: she “looks cute” in short hair. “It’s good to mix it up once and a while.” We couldn’t agree more!

Mixing it up will be an on-going thing for this former Dancer with the Stars. For example, when she’s feeling wild, crazy and sexy, She can slip on high-flying layered curls that look all-natural yet they’re 100% easier than the real thing. Could you ask for anything more?

Question about ‘The Bachelorette’: do you like Emily Maynard’s hair?

From everything we’ve read about The Bachelorette, it seems like you LOVE Emily Maynard’s hair. We agree that her blond mane’s pretty, but we think it’s time-consuming and not practical for real women…unless you’re great with your hair or have help from a celebrity stylist. With the loves of her life now narrowed down to Jef and Arie, there’s little time to left to talk about this season’s Bachelorette. We don’t want to go into a lot of detail about her hairdo how-tos until we know that you’re interested. Hence the reader’s poll below.

Country Music Hairstyles from CMT: Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kellie Pickler, Jordin Sparks, Hayden Panettiere & Jana Kramer

Stars let loose with hair & fashion at the CMT Music awards!

Twice the Sparkle Carrie Underwood won two CMT awards–Video of the Year and best Collaborative Video with Brad Paisley. A one-of-a-kind sequined mini doesn’t need a dramatic ‘do, so Carrie leaves her hair natural looking, flowing waves with a little curl at the ends.

All that Glitters is Silver  Miranda Lambert is the proud winner for best Female Video title for her Over You. While there were sparklers (sparkling dresses) everywhere, Miranda and Carrie still stood out. They took a similar approach to their hair, but Miranda opted for more curl.

Party Dress, Party Curls Hayden Panettiere kicks up her heels, literally, as if celebrating her role on the new drama Nashville. To match the mood, she pins up her long hair to look way shorter than it is. All hair around the face is lifted and rolled off the face.

Flowing Gown, Flowing Hair Jordin Sparks wears a pretty, unique update on the evening dress. The modern-romance look cries out for classic AND sexy. curls. Long, layered curls rise to the challenge.

Natural Blush, Dreamy ‘Do Jana Kramer’s dress is the neutral blush color that’s so popular now. In addition to being trendy, it doesn’t shout, “Look at my dress.” It whispers, “Look at me!” Keeping it subtle, Jana chooses the soft touch of spiral curls topped with a sleek crown.

Pretty in Pink & Blond Kellie Pickler looks thoroughly modern in a short dress, casual coif, daring cleavage and Flapper-like fringe. Kellie’s long bangs blend into lightly layered, lightly curled length.

Side-Swept Hairstyles from ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ ‘Twilight,’ ‘Total Recall’ & TV: Lucy Hale, Nikki Reed, Kristen Stewart, Kate Beckinsale & Louise Roe

Get swept away with star style!

It’s not that unusual for stars to wear their hair swept to one side, but they don’t always achieve as much variety as they did at the MTV Movie Awards 2012.

Lucy Hale looks too sweet to play a role on Pretty Little Liars. She oozes innocence wearing her hair in loose waves swept over the shoulder. In this case, Lucy’s hair is really blowing in the wind, but you can get the wind-blown effect using the strongest-hold hair spray you can find. Lift and shape hair with your fingers while spritzing.

Nikki Reed, best known for the Twilight movies, probably inherited good style genes from her hairdresser-beautician mom Cheryl. She knows a good hairstyle when she sees one, and she’s not afraid to try new things. For the MTV Awards, the actress/screenwriter/model wore a one-of-a-kind look that’s a new twist on retro glamour. It’s based on waves created either with finger-shaping, gel and clips or a waving iron. After the “set,” hair is secured in back with the other side left loose to hug the cheek. Obviously, impeccable makeup is required for the finishing touch.

At star-studded events, Kate Beckinsale barely resembles her character Selene from the Underworld, and we know she won’t be dressed up like this in the Total Recall movie due out in August. We’re not going to lie to you and say this ‘do is easy to copy. Not everyone has hair this long, thick and able to hold for 30 minutes (much less all night). Even if you meet these requirements, we would suggest getting hair styled in a salon the first time. If you’re good with your hair and really want to try it at home, concentrate on building volume with a blow-drier, volumizing product and jumbo-sized round brush. Then set hair on big rollers or using a waving iron. Another option is securing hair before curling it.

What was stylist.com thinking when it placed Louise Roe on the 17 worst-dressed stars at the MTV Movie Awards? Maybe we’re biased because we judge Red Carpet-looks mainly on the hairstyle. And even though her gown wasn’t the best, it wasn’t the worst either. We’re not going to waste room showing Louise’s head-to-toe fashion. More important are that her sidesweep is the curliest shown here. Defined ringlets are enhanced with subtle ombré coloring that gets gradually lighter through bottom half of her mane. The second photo reveals how pretty hair looks flowing over a bare shoulder.

While Kristen Stewart‘s hair isn’t the prettiest shown here, we HAD to include it because she often wears her hair swept to one side. Long layers start around the shoulders, and they are blended so well that they would be nearly invisible if they were styled smooth and straight. Unless your hair is incredibly curly, wavy or will hold a curl, you will need to allow a lot of time and product to do the Twilight look. It would help to practice ahead of time until you can get the thick, lifted mix of loose curls and waves.

‘That’s My Boy’ Horrible Movie, Great Hairstyles: Leighton Meester, Ciara, Eva Amurri, Rebecca Marshall, Crystal Allen, Abigail Klein & Carrie Wiita

We’re bringing the ‘dos to you, so you don’t have to go to them!

There are more women than you would expect in a movie about boys, and they wear good hairstyles that would work for real women. Before we get to the hairstyles, give us a moment to rant: That’s My Boy earned zero stars from one leading film critic. The buzz ranges from negative to more negative with reviewers saying Sandler has outdone himself in raunchiness! The photo at the bottom of this post depicts the over-grown boy in a hot tub with seven women, which isn’t necessarily bad, but Sandler makes it so.

Poor Leighton Meester plays the lead among a group of female characters who are doomed from the start. Judging from her photo at the movie’s premiere, it looks like Leighton survived beautifully. Loose curls, side bangs and realistic hair color add up to a style that’s pretty practical for women who have medium- to long-length hair.

Moving onto the other pawns, there’s Ciara in a classic coif with a new twist– a single braid peeking out from luscious waves. Contrasting black and blond color isn’t for everyone, but Ciara knows how to work it!

Eva Amurri Martino plays it cool by wearing an updo. You can tell the hair has been blow-dried first because it’s full and lifted in front. Meanwhile Crystal Allen always keeps her cool in a short style that takes little maintenance because the shape is built into the cut–graduated from short on bottom to longer on top.  For extra oomph, the shorty can be blow-dried with a round brush. If you have long bangs, let them fall forward, naturally!

Abigail Klein & Carrie Wiita like to wear their long hair curly, but they do it different ways: Abby wears them loose, Carrie goes with spirals. To get A.K.’s look, blow-dry hair with a round brush held vertically. Follow with a quick set using a large-barreled curling iron. As you can imagine, C.W.’s curls take more time and attention. You can start like Abigail, but more important is styling with a medium-size curling iron. Use small sections of hair and alternate the direction, going forward on one curl, back on the next. We suggest getting the look done at a salon first and watching carefully while it is being done.

From the front, Rebecca Marshall seems to be wearing a normal bun, but the side view reveals something more–a curly ponytail, lifted crown and a better view of the ringlets in front.

There’s more we could talk about, but we’re getting sick of thinking about the man who turns a long-lost son story into a tragcom. So goodbye, Adam, and good riddance!

Pretty Straight Celebrity Hairstyles: Emma Watson, Christina Ricci, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Amurri & Julia Jones

Easy ways to tress up straight hair!

Straight hair is always better with a little bit of TLC as the stars give their manes when they come out at night…like they did at the MTV Movie Awards.

Fans of Emma Watson from her Harry Potter days are glad to see she’s growing out the very short-short cut that she got after her long run as Hermione in Harry’s Wizardly World. The post-Hermione look was called a pixie but it came close to being a buzzed hairstyle. We thought Em looking like Aubrey Hepburn was darling, but her Hermione admirers were shocked (and disappointed). Moving out of the precise short has given Emma more versatility and the chance to tousle her tresses because every hair doesn’t have to be in place. Golden highlights are heavier around the face drawing attention to the model/actress’s glowing personality. The style can be worn as is, but it looks best when blow-dried with a round brush after applying a volumizing product on damp hair.

Eva Amurri Martino is in Adam Sandler‘s That’s My Boy (just released today). We know her better as Hank’s student/stripper from Californication. and as Susan Sarandon’s daughter. Eva’s take on straight hair is interesting with a touch of wave and curl thrown in for contrast. Long layers and ombré highlights provide body and hold after styling with a blow dryer and a curling iron (used sporadically on the ends).

Christina Ricci, who was in TV’s very short-lived Pan Am, chooses the easiest route for straight hair–short. The movie/TV star has the guts and good looks to wear a ‘do that shows off her face (and high forehead). Styling is straight-forward: simply apply gel and comb into place. Experiment with blow-drying or a flat-iron to achieve a smoother finish.

Twilight’s Julia Jones wears a bob, the tried-and-true style for straight hair. Instead of being ruler-straight, the ends are notched (or texturized as a hairstylist would say). Like Christina, Julia can carry off a dramatic ‘do that’s made that way with a center part.

How-to secrets for Julia’s hair work well for adding volume to any straight hairstyle. When hairstylist Cervando Maldonado worked with Ms. Jones, his first goal was to calm frizz. According to usmagazine.com, he applied Rose Veil Oil evenly through damp hair. After blow-drying the bob with a round brush, he made pin curls and left them in for 10 minutes. He added a bit of wave using a curling iron, but you could just gently brush out hair after the set.

Jennifer Aniston wears one of her trademark styles–long, straight and angled in front. Jen is famous for starting the “Rachel” trend from Friends (mid-length, heavily layered, very highlighted and highly stylized). She’s stated time and time again how much happier she is with her casual coif that’s become a modern classic. You can imagine how the look can be recreated: simply blow-dry hair over a large round brush. If you want (or need) more polish, use a flat-iron or jumbo-sized curling iron.
