Paris & Nicky Hilton: can’t you afford to have better hair?

For all the money they have, you’d think the Hilton sisters would have the best manes in the world!

Maybe their high opinion of themselves says, “We DO have the best looks money can buy.” Perhaps they feel that designer fashions and jewelry are enough.

Watching them at the MTV Movie Awards, we couldn’t help notice how bad their hair is. We wonder if they even attempt to get a natural-looking hair color? Paris’ bleached-out blond looks like a white T-shirt that has “yellowed” after too many washings. Nicki’s shade is less bitter, but not much better. Both hair colors lack dimension and personality. Like most women, they let a bit of their dark roots show, but Paris goes too far showing her roots around the face.

They also seem oblivious to the sickly condition of their strands. Paris’ mane is thicker than Nicki’s yet it thins into spiky split ends. Meanwhile, Nicki could have had a cute cut IF she had maintained the angled fringe. Nicki’s lack of hair is even more noticeable where pieces get lumped together. The more we look at them, the more their hair reminds us of worn-out brooms.

While their hair is horrible, their stilted poses were the first thing that got our attention on Sunday. What we really want to know: are the Hilton sisters robots, aliens, zombies or escapees from a wax museum?

Take another look at the Hiltons. There’s not much difference between the top two photos; it seems like the sissies didn’t move in between shots and every hair stayed in place. Their arms are “glued” around their waists as celeb sisters are wont to do (think the Olsen twins). We don’t see any difference in Paris between the first and 2nd look, but the full-figure view shows Paris stuck sticking out her derriere (or is it just the angle?). In contrast to Paris’ frozen smile, Nicki has vacant eyes and non-expressive lips. Oh yeah, Nicki rotates her head ever-so-slightly. In yet another pose, the two prove they are alive: Nicki kicks up her feet, while Paris lifts her right arm and breaks her smile…but they still have bad hair!

Who has the best hair in MAXIM HOT 100?

Do you agree with MAXIM’s picks for their HOT 100?
More important: what do you think about their hair?

Although our HOT 100 would be different from MAXIM’s, their infamous list always draws us in. This year it’s even more interesting because the rankings are based on Readers’ Opinions for the first time in one hundred years of Hot 100 history. This year we were pleasantly surprised by another first: Stephen Colbert placed Number 69 on the rankings (thanks to a massive write-in vote campaign)

Now let’s get to the meat of the matter. Help us choose the HOTTEST HAIRSTYLES from the MAXIM 100. For the complete list, click here.

Micaela Schaefer: strip ‘tease’ distracts from pretty hair at MIB3 premiere!

Beautiful hair and makeup aren’t enough to get her “all” of the attention  she craves. So Micaela goes nearly naked to the German premiere of Men in Black 3, hogging the spotlight on the Red Carpet!

Are you desperate to get noticed? Do you think your looks, brains and personality aren’t doing the trick? If so, follow the lead of Micaela Schaefer, Germany’s Next Top Model contestant. Wear the least amount of clothing or material (VHS tape) to a big event that will be saturated with paparazzi. That’s exactly what Micaela did, and she got her day or two of fame, making headlines all around the world! The plan may have backfired because the news wasn’t flattering.

She’s been called all kinds of names but our favority is “attention whore,” a gorgeous woman who feels like she has to sell her body to get ahead.

It’s funny that her luscious hair and makeup went unnoticed during her strip tease. Many women would be happy to have perfectly shiny ringlets twirling down their back. Another potentially eye-catching touch is a headband of braided hair contrasting with the smooth crown. Hot pink lipcolor and coordinating eye makeup are of-the-moment and finish off a look that cries out for a classic gown, colorful mini or flowy pantsuit.

It will be interesting to see if anyone remembers this bikini model after a few weeks. Of course, she might extend her expiration date by continuing to wear the Emperor’s Clothes.

We’re sure there are plenty of men and women who love to see Micaela au naturel…so if you want to see more of her full-body shots, click here!

Men in Black 3 premiere: Micaela Schaefer’s barely-there clothes trump pretty hair

Beautiful hair and pretty facial features aren’t enough to make her the center of attention. So Micaela goes nearly naked to the German premiere of Men in Black 3, stealing the spotlight from the real stars on the Red Carpet!

Reader’s Poll: What kind of hairstyles do you look for online?

When you “search” hairstyle ideas, what key words do you use? Celebrities, non-celebs, TV stars, singers, models, hairstyles, etc.

Originally, when we started realhairstyles.net, our goal was to present celebrity hairstyles that work in real life, but sometimes we get carried away showing celebrity hair fashions and what we think about them.

Now we think it’s high time to ask you how you think we’re doing. Would you rather have more details about how to do the styles? Or would you like us to continue going in the same direction as we have in the past?

Celebrity Blondes: Avengers’ Scarlett Johansson, Mad Men’s January Jones, Glee-ful Dianna Agron & more

Featuring straight, curly, wavy, up, down, short to long

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is considered THE style event of the year…yes, bigger than the Academy Awards show, Golden Globes, Emmys. It’s been nicknamed the Oscars of the East Coast or the Fashion Oscars. With the spotlight on glamour, the Met presents more than enough hairstyle ideas for Real Women. Of course, many of the ‘dos are unrealistic…unless you have the time and money to spare and/or you have a celeb hairstylist at your beck and call.

Since so many great hairstyles showed up at this year’s Ball, we decided to feature a few at a time. Here, the spotlight is on some of the beautiful blondes at the High Society event.

Scarlett Johannson’s Wavy Bob
When we saw Scarlett on the Red Carpet, it hit us that loose waves without layers have become a timeless style like a straight bob, pixie or upsweep. While the wavy style looks easy to do, it’s really not…unless your hair is naturally this way. Tighter curls would have to be smoothed out and straighter hair would need lots o’ help from a waving iron or a very loose perm.

Amber Valetta’s Sleek Waves
Glamorous hairstyles are no big deal for models like Ms. Valetta. But for women like us, nothing could be more special (or harder to achieve)! Anyone who’s not rich and famous would have to spend an hour or more at home or up to half a day in a salon to recreate the hair fashion. Most types of hair would have to be blown dry using small sections at a time. Then working again with small sections, curl hair vertically with a medium-to-large barrel styling iron. Let hair dry thoroughly before brushing gently and finishing with your fave holding product.

Chloe Sevigny’s Chic Short Cut
Meanwhile Ms. Sevigny could almost comb her hair and go to get ready for Big Love Nights. But you know THAT wouldn’t cut it for divas who are going to be in the limelight. (It’s funny to see a star like Chloe making what looks like a mistake with her hair…it’s messed up on the left side or is it just sticking out too much?!) The layered, short cut looks more polished when it’s blown-dry after applying a texturizing product to damp hair. Curl a few tendrils around the face and fingerbrush.

After looking closely at her to write this post, we realized that Chloe is either nude or wearing nude-colored undergarments. While it might be obvious to you, we think it’s a kind of subtle way to draw attention to yourself. The bloggers at gofugyourself.com would call the bare beauty anything but subtle! Writing about Chloe in their Fug or Fab category, they say, “Yes, she’s bedecked chiefly in hot pants and mirrors. If only she’d opted to look in one of them.” (If you’re into snarky comments about Celebrity Style, visit the Fug Girls.)

Dianna Agron’s Curly Upsweep
Natural curls don’t require much prompting to get tressed up like this. Simply scrunch while drying with a diffused blow-drier or squeeze and lift curls continuously while they are drying naturally. Brush out the crown before sweeping hair back. Loosen lots of curls on one side and a few on the other. Secure with bobby pins underneath in back and spray.

January Jones’ Sleek Bob
We love to follow Miss January to marvel at the ways she combines pretty hairstyles with hot trends. And it’s fun to see her sometimes questionable fashion choices (like a glaring yellow gown with details on the bodice that emphasis the corset detailing and resemble a cartoon vampire.) As for her hair, is there a little pink left from when she added the streak months ago? Actually the Mad (wo)Men’s hairstyle needs little embellishment. The straight blunt cut is classic and looks its best with meticulous blow-dry styling.

Courtney Robertson’s Bachelor hairstyle (or lack thereof)!

Weeks ago–before Courtney Robertson won The Bachelor–we were ready to write scathing posts about her, questioning her sanity, his sanity, the producers’ sanity and the sanity of anyone associated with the modern Dating & Let’s Get Married Game. Like the rest of the world, we didn’t like her lying and scheming character, complete with baby voice, exhibitionist behavior and lack of respect for the other Bachelorettes (we’re not sure she respects many members of the female sex). But now that the dust has settled, we’re starting to change our mind about the diva. If you believe the tabs, Bachelor Ben Flajnik started cheating on his “fiancée” even as they were moving in together. The latest coverage is putting a diff light on Courtney…as the suffering woman who’s setting up house while Ben jets to Vegas with the boys.

Like you, we’re sick of the whole thing. However we have to go on record about her hair: it’s not that good! Her locks were at their best when wet…so that was most of the time on the show. In general there was nothing interesting about the hairstyles of any Bachelorette. If we get any feedback from this post, we might write more about how dull their dos really are!

Solange Knowles’ hairstyles: bolder, more natural than sister Beyoncé’s style

Honestly? There’s no comparison when it comes to hair!

When we started comparing the Knowles sisters’ hairstyles, we jumped the gun and said Beyoncé is boring because she rarely changes her hair. A little research reveals that she does change dos every now and then–from trademark curls to waves to straight or up. Still, Beyoncé rarely strays from calm, relaxed, conservative, commercial… almost as unnatural as you can get.

On the other hand, Solange‘s style is almost the exact opposite. Unlike a majority of celebrities, Solange mixes up her coifs, takes risks, sets trends, and doesn’t worry if her fans will follow (but they do!).

Bold AND beautiful proof

Exhibit A: She cut off her hair way before the recent crop of buzz cuts i.e. Agyness Deyn, Janet Jackson and Natalie Maines. She’s among the few who can pull off barely-there hair like the previously mentioned plus Natalie Portman, Demi Moore and a young Sinead O’Connor.

Exhibit B: Solange plays with a wide variety of lengths and styles. And she’s not afraid to experiment with hats, scarves, hair ornaments and extensions. The evidence presented here speaks for itself.

Exhibit C: She flaunts her natural hair’s texture more often than not. Right now she’s one of the trendies bringing back The Afro (below right). Actually the modern do barely resembles those from the ’60s. In addition to Solange, Thandie Newton is a great example of the new ‘fro–not relaxed, not straightened, not dull. While she’s been criticized for for un-done mane, Thandie could care less because her daughters love it!

Closing argument:
Enough said!

Brooklyn Decker’s makeover: swimsuit model trying to change image!

Just Go With It, get a haircut!
Right before the premiere of this Adam Sandler movie, Jennifer Aniston shocked her fans by cutting her long hair into a lob (a long bob). Right after the premiere, castmate Brooklyn Decker did like Jen, but chopped 10 inches off her mane! While Jen’s look hasn’t changed much, Brook looks like a different woman in her longish-bob. This was a smart move for the blonde who’s trying to go from supermodel to actress. The makeover fits her career goals because the new do is conservative and easily styled to suit a businesswoman.

It’s going to take more than a haircut to go from model to actress
Though she might not have gotten as much publicity as Jen, Brooklyn got plenty of attention from gossip tabloids and celeb mags. Ms. Decker loves the new do for the same reasons she hates the trailer of her first film, Just Go With It. The preview aired over and over during the Super Bowl, drawing more interest to the babe in a bikini than the halftime show’s received in years! Later she told Conan O’Brien she was disappointed in Sony who didn’t live up to their promise to showcase her acting potential rather than her past as a cover girl on Sports Illustrated’s infamous Swimsuit Issue.

Brooklyn Decker’s Drastic Haicut: Likes or Yikes?
This was the question posed by ivillage.com. after Brooklyn posted the do-over on Twitter. Female fans have cried out, “Why’d she do it?” and guys wondered the same thing! Experience tells us that girls and women who like to follow styles of the stars prefer very long hair, usually full curls, windblown waves, but also straight and sleek … basically anything long and sexy!

Ask any guy what he thinks about the new do. If he even cares to talk about hair, he’ll probably say something like, “She’d look good in anything”! We take this to mean she can wear any hairstyle–one of those stars we hate because they’re beautiful…no matter how they wear their hair (think Demi Moore, Agyness Deyn, Janet Jackson, Emma Watson, Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Hayden Panettiere). Those who don’t like the shorter style have to admit that it’s easier to maintain. It’s long enough not to need a trim every four to six weeks. And it looks great naturally (if cut by a talented stylist).

These shorter hair pix are easier to do than you might think, but the sleek style takes more time and effort: blowdry with a large round brush, working with small sections at a time. The second view of the new tresses is pretty natural. Simply blow dry bangs forward and everything else back. Roll ends under, over or both, and you’re ready to rumble! And don’t worry about being pretty, shorter hair flatters almost anyone!Sources: FlynetPictures.com, Getty Images, ivillage.com, Brooklyn Decker, dailymail.co.uk
