Soap Star Hairstyles: Days of our Lives, Bold & Beautiful, Young & Restless

Candidates for Best Younger Actress in a Drama Series present a variety of hairstyles…curly, wavy, straight, ombre color, golden blond and a girl-to-woman makeover!

The nominees are Shelley Hennig (ex-Stephanie, Days of Our Lives), Molly Burnett (Melanie, Days), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy, The Bold and The Beautiful) and Christel Khalil (Lily of The Young and The Restless).

Shelley is well known for her daytime role, but she has carried her popularity into nighttime’s The Secret Circle. For the soaps (below), she looked younger in ringlets that seemed perfectly natural and low maintenance. For nighttime intrigue (above) the brunette takes on a more sophisticated, more stylized waves and curls.

As Melanie on Days, Molly Burnett (below left) changes her hair often. She wore ombre haircolor when it was hot (esp. because of Drew Barrymore). Miss Melanie also used to wear her hair in over-the-top, high-society dos that were too old for her. Lately she seems right at home in girlish looks like this long golden blond mane curled around the face.

If your hair is straight or smoothed out with blow-dry styling, just use a curling iron vertically to get the flattering ringlets.

Speaking of ombre color, Steffy is still wearing it. Jacqueline (right) keeps it fresh by volumizing hair on top and blending it to lower volume, but loose curls through the length. Light layers starting at the chin give the mane that extra boost.

At The Young and the Restless, Emmy nominee Christel Khalil has always brought an exotic flair to her Lily. Most recently we haven’t seen Christel much on screen and wish that she would have a bigger story. Back in the day, Lily was on the front burner playing a rising model being thwarted by Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson, Emmy nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series). From the start we noticed Christel’s luscious ringlets that seem more natural. If your hair is like hers, just brush out the crown and scrunch dry the rest.

The Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented June 23 in Los Angeles. A complete list of nominees can be found at EmmyOnline.TV.

Elizabeth Hendrickson’s Young and Restless hairstyles and old looks from All My Children

We first met Elizabeth Hendrickson when she was at All My Children (AMC), and then we followed her to The Young and The Restless. She may be better known as Maggie on AMC. That character is infamous as the 2nd girlfriend of Bianca, Erica’s daughter. The Bianca-Maggie affair happened so long ago that young fans don’t know it ever happened!

For quite some time, Elizabeth has been better known as Y&R’s Chloe. Both of these soap roles have required plenty of experience playing devious divas. Chloe came to Y&R as a demanding fashion stylish. She schemed her way into Billy’s life by getting pregnant with him, so he felt pressured to marry her. Since then Chloe has softened dramatically…most recently enjoying newly married life with Kevin and doting mother.

As often  happens in the soaps, Elizabeth has changed her looks more often than most actresses, moving from fresh teen looks into realistic dos for a woman her age. During her early Y&R days, Liz flaunted trendy short cuts befitting of her career. Those cropped cuts have been replaced with “natural” loose waves that often border on ombre haircolor (or just grown-out roots). The ombre style reflects a trend that’s not so hot with celebs now, but it’s still going strong for young girls in the real world. A few popular actresses like Drew Barrymore are hanging onto their dark roots as long as they can.

Before Chloe’s most recent wedding, she wooed Kevin with short glamour styles such as gelled ”Flapper” finger waves (above). While we love Ms. Hendrickson in cropped haircuts, long is pretty and much more practical for portraying Chloe today. Her current coifs are so commen-sense she can whip up a gorgeous bridal look for a spur-of-the-moment wedding! She just swept up her hair, keeping it loose and tousled because there was no time to spare! Long layers and long side bangs lend themselves to a lot more versatility than her early short cuts.

And let’s not forget Liz’s acting skills. The often-honored soap star is a 2012 Emmy nominee, along with Genie Francis, Genevieve on Y&R; Nancy Lee Grahn, Alexis General Hospital (GH); Julie Marie Berman, Lulu GH; Nadia Bjorlin, Chloe Days of our Lives (DOOL); Melissa Claire Egan, Annie AMC; Rebecca Herbst, Elizabeth GH; Debbi Morgan, Harmony Y&R; Gina Tognoni, Kelly One Life to Live, and Arianne Zucker, Nicole DOOL.
